KARACHI: The counter terrorism department (CTD) on Monday arrested five people in connection with the recent target killings in the city.

According to sources, the CTD Civil Lines unite made the arrests.

At least nine people have been killed in the city since Friday, reigniting target-killing fears in Karachi.

A person was shot dead in Orangi Town no.10 while another was targeted in New Rizvia Society late on Saturday.

On Sunday, one injured due to firing in Patel Para succumbed to his injuries. Following the firing spree, police and Rangers started raids in the city.

MWM leader, 20 others apprehended in Karachi

Law enforcement agencies rounded up Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Allama Syed Ahmed Iqbal in a search operation on Monday.

According to sources privy to development, Allama Ahmed Iqbal was shifted to an undisclosed location after being taken into custody from New Rizvia society.

Moreover, at least seven people were arrested and 20 were detained in the overnight raids conducted by Police and Rangers.

Earlier, on a tip-off by intelligence agencies, law enforcement authorities took into custody Aftab Ahmed but later released him. Speaking on this matter, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khuwaja Izhar-ul-Hasan said that Ahmed was not picked up by the authorities, but was called by them for interrogation.

Search Operations

Meanwhile, LEAs conducted search operations in different areas of the metropolis.

In Patel Para, exit and entry points were sealed during the operation in which suspicious houses of the vicinity were raided, at least three people were detained. Reports suggests that weapons were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, 10 suspects were rounded up in a search operation at Bhingoria Goth in Azizabad by Gulberg police.

In Hussain Hazara Goth, police apprehended at least three suspects.
