KARACHI: Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader Alama Mirza Yousaf has been sent to prison on judicial remand.
He was presented in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday where the court directed the investigating officer to present a challan (charge-sheet) by November 23.
According to the investigation officer, Allama Mirza Yousuf is accused of sectarian provocative speech.
Police said a case of provocative speech has been lodged against Allama Mirza Yousuf in Sharifabad police station.
In the early hours of Sunday, Allama Mirza Yousuf along with 40 suspects was apprehended by authorities. He was taken into custody from the Nazimabad area and moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The arrests come a day after police arrested Faisal Raza Abidi, former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator, from his house in New Rizvia Society late Friday night. Abidi was arrested in connection with the killings of two persons in Patel Para area a day earlier.
Law enforcement agencies rounded up Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Allama Syed Ahmed Iqbal in a search operation on Monday.
According to sources privy to development, Allama Ahmed Iqbal was shifted to an undisclosed location after being taken into custody from New Rizvia society.
Moreover, at least seven people were arrested and 20 were detained in the overnight raids conducted by Police and Rangers.
