By Dr. Abdul Razak Shaikh,
The first Christian Advocate General in Pakistan’s history was appointed by the Sindh government on Thursday. Salman Talibuddin was appointed as Advocate General Sindh. Talibuddin was serving as an additional attorney general Pakistan.
Previously, former advocate General Zameer Ghumro resigned from the post after remarks by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar.
M L Shahani was the first from the Hindu Minority community appointed as the Advocate General Sindh and was later appointed as a judge at the Sindh High Court.
Once again PPP has marked history by appointing from Christian Community as a Law officer of Sindh Government. Every corner in the Province of Sindh has lauded the appointment, emphasizing it as an instance of PPP position on empowering minorities.
The PPP has so far, lived up to its manifesto pledges of supporting minorities while strengthening their visibility in the mainstream. Such as the swearing-in to the Sindh Assembly of Tanzeela Qambrani; belonging to the Sheedi Clan that originally hails from Africa.
Thus while all of Pakistan is (hopefully) celebrating alongside the country’s Christians, it is to be remembered that there is much hard work still to be done when it comes to leveling the playing field for all minorities. The fact that it has taken some 70 years for a Christian to secure the post of Advocate-General should tell everyone everywhere the enormity of this challenge. This is not to take anything away from Mr. Talibuddin. But it is to simply remind progressive Pakistanis that this is not the time to be resting on your laurels. This, after all, is just the beginning.
In 2018 General Election PPP awarded ticket to Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani for National Assembly on General seats from Thar and he won the election. Mr. Gianchand Essrani and Mr. Hari Ram was also winner the election for Sindh assembly. Dr. Mahesh kumar and Mr.Gianchand elected from Thar and Thano Bola Khan having major population of their community, Where as Mr.Hari Ram won from Mirpur khas having 80 to 90 percent Muslim population and we say no discrimination in the constituency dominated by Muslim.
On a same way lot of examples that PPP has sent many females of poor families to reach in Assembly. In March 2018 Senate election PPP also awarded the ticket to Anwar Lal din by Christian community from Karachi and Ms. Krishna kohli from Thar were belongs to poor class. Krishna Kohli also belongs to very remote area of Thar.
In 2018 party has awarded the Provincial assembly ticket on reserved seats to Tanzeela Qambrani, the Clan of Hoshoo Sheedi.
Same way catholic layman Anthony Naveed is only Christian member elected in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh on reserved seat by Pakistan Peoples Party. He will represent party till 2023. Other parties have chosen candidates from Hindu community on reserved minority seats.
Pakistan Peoples Party has a very broad vision to work for minorities, female and less privileged people, that is the reason for their success in third term in the province of Sindh. It is real wisdom of political party to give all opportunities to without any discrimination and PPP is on that way.
