Dirkot: (Parliament Times) The chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation League (Ideological group) Maroof Akhtar Abbasi has passed away at his native town Dirkot in Azad Kashmir after protracted illness.
Abbasi who breathed his last in the wee hours on Tuesday was a close associate of former AJK president late K H Khursheed. The funeral prayers of the deceased were held at his native village Chemiati, which was attended by a large number of people hailing from different segments of society.
The veteran Kashmiri leader was reckoned amongst the region’s top rank leaders of Kashmir’s freedom movement. Despite facing many hardships throughout his political carrier Abbasi spent his entire life in pursuit of K H Khursheed’s ideology and remained stick to his ideals till last breath of his life.
Apart from his political and social work, Abbasi was a prolific writer; his columns and write ups were published in different regional and national newspapers in AJK and Pakistan. His peerless contribution to Kashmir cause would be remembered for a long time in the annals of Kashmir history.
