Islamabad: Torrential Monsoon rain before dawn on Tuesday lashed twin cities, flooding streets and homes in low lying areas as Authorities struggled to restore normalcy.
The 202mm rain turned roads and streets into pools while forcing authorities to declare a rain emergency in Rawalpindi.
Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi declared an emergency to cope with the heavy downpour.
Nullah Lai surged up to 14 feet at Ratta Bridge in the wake of torrential rain.
Parts of Rawalpindi including Shams Abad, Sadiq Abad, Committee Chowk, and Javed Colony Areas were left inundated as homes were flooded in rain water.
Rescue teams of WASA scrambled to reach low lying areas to conduct rescue operations.
Weather experts are expecting more rains in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
