ISLAMABAD: Intelligence agencies have foiled terror attempt on former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on the eve of his appearance in Accountability Court (AC) and Sharif family has been prevented from appearing in the court owing to security threats.
According to media reports, Nawaz Sharif did not appear in the court on previous hearing due to security threats.
Sources said Afghan nationals are residing illegally in sector G-14, an area of Golra Police adjacent to Judicial Complex.
Police have launched search operation, arrested about 150 suspected persons and started investigation. On Information of targeting Nawaz Sharif caravan by the terrorists near Golra More, the former PM was stopped from appearing in the court. On the next day the police on the information of intelligence agencies took into their possession two suicide jackets weighing 8 kilogram each, explosive material and arms from sector G-14. Heavy contingent of police and bomb disposal squad staffers were called and the suicide jackets were defused.
Rangers, Police and Law Enforcement Agencies carried out search operation in the adjoining areas of Judicial Complex , nabbed over 150 suspects and shifted them to unknown destination for investigation.
Sources said that the terrorists could not reach the target due to timely police action and police barricades. They fled by throwing away the arms in sector G-14.
SP Sadar Zone Amir Niazi said this is highly sensitive matter and it will be premature to say any thing on this count. The accused are being searched with the help of safe city cameras. However no clear achievement has been made so far.
SSP Saddar avoided to offer more comments on this matter.
