Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The Rawalpindi- Islamabad Bureaus Journalist Association (RIBJA) on Tuesday made a passionate appeal to Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan and federal information minister to take effective notice of what they called the economic slaughter of media workers associated with print media.
RIBJA president Sardar Shoukat Mehmood along with scores of journalists lodged a strong protest in front of Press Information Depart (PID) against the alleged discriminatory treatment meted out to media workers and an unjust distribution of 25% quota allocated for the local and regional news papers. The protesters on the occasion appealed the federal minister for information and broadcasting Fawad Ahmed Chudhary to play his due role to stop the economic slaughter of media organizations and thousands of workers associated with media industry. Terming regional news papers as a symbol of federation Mehmood said that depriving media workers and news papers of their fundamental rights was tantamount to weaken the federation.
Urging PM Imran Khan to take effective cognizance of the matter he said that principal information officer was hell bent on to crush the media industry and media workers associated with different regional newspapers of Pakistan including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. “PFUJ, RIUJ and other media organizations will go on a strike in case the government fails to resolve the issue within a week”, he said.
Others who spoke on the occasion included, Raheel Swati the senior vice president of RIBJA, Nisar Ahmed, Arshad Gujjar president All Pakistan Radio Union, president APP Union Shehzad Chudhary, President MWO Malik Tahir, former president KJF Ejaz Abbasi, senior journalist Raja Bashir Usmani and others.
