Islamabad : Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said industrial sector is being provided with Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) across the country.
He was inaugurating Pakistan Oil and Gas Conference in Islamabad on Thursday.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said the Government has delivered by mitigating energy crisis in the country.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the country’s energy sector faced serious challenges and some of them still haunt it because no concrete efforts were made to address them.
He referred to the LNG import by the present government and said it was because of this significant initiative that today power plants are running, CNG sector is operating and we are exporting fertilizer and every industry is getting gas round the clock.
The Prime Minister said within a short span of time, the present government signed a contract with Qatar for import of LNG and terminal was also constructed for the purpose.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said it is because of efforts of the incumbent government that the country had 100% replacement of the depleted gas reserves and domestic oil production has crossed one hundred thousand barrels per day.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan was the only country in the world using non-standard petrol and diesel but we have introduced standard petrol and diesel without any price increase for consumers and this would also have salutary impact on the environment.He said like CNG, diesel prices have also been deregulated.
The Prime Minister said steps have also been taken for establishment of oil refineries and transmission of oil through pipeline instead of trucks.
He said nowhere in the world there is diesel or furnace oil based power generation as it is expensive and also pollutes the environment. He said we too will have to follow the suit.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said there was a proposal for setting up a Transmission Company and one Distribution Company each in the provinces for gas.
As for import of gas, he said work on TAPI has finally started and gas flow from the project would start in four to five years.
He said commercial contract for Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is stuck up because of international sanctions on Iran.
The Prime Minister urged experts to make concrete and feasible proposals for tackling the problems of the energy sector so as to efficiently meet growing requirements of the country.
On the occasion, he also launched the publication “Pakistan Energy Outlook 2017”, encompassing existing and future energy scenarios of the country.
