All shops and other business establishments were closed while traffic was off the roads in the district. The troops ruthlessly beat a class 12th student, Rasiq Altaf, at Khrew in Pulwama district, last night, when he was shifting his ailing mother to a hospital for treatment. The residents of Pampore and Khag blocked roads to protest against the Indian atrocities in the areas.
Indian forces launched a cordon and search operation in Wathoo area of Shopian district, today. The troops laid a siege to the village, smashed windowpanes of residential houses and damaged private vehicles without any provocation.
Meanwhile, media reports quoting the wife of jailed Hurriyat leader, Farooq Ahmad Dar, revealed that Indian authorities approached her in a bid to prevail upon her husband to leave the path to freedom in exchange for his release, but she rejected the offer altogether. Farooq Dar’s wife, Assabah Khan, told media that the offer was made by India’s National Investigation Agency through a police officer. However, she said that she was ready to receive the dead body of her husband, but would not strike any deal with the NIA. Farooq Ahmad Dar is lodged in Tihar jail in a fake case, registered against him by the NIA in 2016.
