Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has ordered probe against the police and NAB officers involved in harassing Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) for taking action against pharmaceutical companies on manufacturing fake medicines.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has remarked how the NAdared to interfere and issue notice. This is tantamount to let down court’s powers. We will not spare if action is taken against DRAP without court’s permission
The bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up the case for hearing on Monday.
The court expressed annoyance over issuance of notice by NAB to DRAP.
The CJP remarked “ How the NAB dared to interfere and issue notice to DRAP despite being the matter sub judice. This amounts to let down court’s powers. NAB officer Marth’s written reply should be filed. If authorities start working then will NAB harass. NAB should suspend the respective officer and withdraw the notice immediately. We know how to get implement court’s orders. We will see how the NAB harass. Elimination of fake medicines is included in our agenda. People use medicines but they don’t get relief. Fake and; prohibited medicines are being sold online. How these medicines are being manufactured. What is the ;procedure to check them. Severe punishment will be awarded. We will not allow the matter to go this way. Hold the inquiry. NAB officer Marth is holding how much assets.
Deputy Chairman NAB took the plea the notice was issued through misconception. NAB has withdrawn notice.
CJP remarked no such act will be tolerated in future. Inform the chairman NAB about my displeasure.
SC ordered NAB prosecutor general should appear in person and file all file record pertaining to NAB ;proceedings against DRAP. Application be given to FIA against the officers involved in harassing DRAP officials. DG FIA should hold inquiry and file report within 15 days.
