ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been allowed to contest election in NA-57 Rawalpindi.
The petitioner Masood Ahmad Abbasi had challenged the acceptance of nomination papers of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Supreme Court (SC). He had taken the plea that Khaqan had misstated facts in affidavit and nomination papers, therefore, Lahore High Court (LHC) decision allowing him to contest polls should be set aside and his nomination papers be rejected
SC bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan took up for hearing petition filed against the acceptance of nomination papers of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Friday.
Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan inquired during the hearing of the case does this case relate to mentioning less market value of property.
He further inquired if Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has misstated the facts then where are the evidences.
Counsel for the petitioner said Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has tampered the record.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked “ if record has been tampered then evidence has to be recorded.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan while addressing counsel for petitioner remarked “ what you are saying does not fall under the ambit of summary proceeding. This matter has a regular procedure.
CJP inquired “ tell us what mis–declaration has been made by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
CJP remarked what property is mentioned in income tax return, it is mentioned in nomination papers.
CJP inquired from petitioner “ what is your concern with the case. Are you rival candidate.
Counsel for the petitioner said “ I am voter of respective constituency.
CJP remarked “ you have no concern with this case, therefore, court time should not be wasted.
