Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has given approval of building of two small dams in District Rawalpindi to cope with untimely dry weather patterns that affect the growth of crops, fisheries and to fulfill the requirements of agriculture water need.
The new water reservoirs like “Dadoccha” dam near DHA valley Sahila and “Papeen” dam near Tehsil Chak Beli Khan. Sources stated that the purpose projects were in pipeline for past 20 years. They started that estimated cost of these two dams was Rs 11.3 billion as land of 17 to 18 thousands Kanal required for construction of Dadoccha Dam which estimated cost was Rs 6 billion.
Sources further disclosed that Small Dams Organization has stated the field and data survey work and under this the tender would be issued latter after possession of land and resettlement. Under this project Small Dams Organization would construct the spillways of dams and other work. Sources further stated that Rawalpindi Water and Sanitation Department and Rawalpindi Development Authority would look after the construction of water filtration plants. Sources further stated that Papeen” dam water would be utilized for agriculture purpose. Sources further stated that dams’ construction project was only limited to file work for past 15 years and Small Dams Organization had conducted several surveys in this regard.
