Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Flaying incumbent Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan over his recent remarks the Pakistan Peoples Party (AJK chapter) on Monday announced that the party will observe 2nd August as a black day in Azad Kashmir to express its resentment against the AJK PM’s much controversial statement.
According to a press release, the PPP will hold protest rallies against the PM in all major cities and towns of Azad Kashmir which will be attended by senior leaders as well as the workers of people’s party. Terming the AJK PM’s remarks as unconstitutional and immoral the PPP president Ch. Latif Akbar and Faisal Mumtaz Rathore said that the AJK PM Raja Farooq Haider was in severe distress after PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the court. In a bid to vent out his frustration they said that the AJK Prime Minister launched a scathing attack against the Supreme Court judges and the national institutions. They said that the AJK PM used accession to Pakistan as a tool, however, on seeing reaction from political parties Khan was now backtracking from his earlier statements.
The PPP leaders demanded that the AJK PM must resign forthwith and tender an apology to the people of Kashmir who they said have rendered matchless sacrifices for Pakistan. They said that no one be allowed to use these sacrifices as a tool of blackmailing.
It may be recalled here that AJK Premier Raja Farooq Haider Khan’s statement, which he later denied, evoked widespread condemnation and political parties have been demanding action against him. Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that Farooq Haider should be removed from his office and tried for treason.
PPP’s Senator Sherry Rehman has called for Raja Haider’s resignation. A resolution in this regard was submitted in the Punjab Assembly by PPP.
Pertinently, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider on Sunday denied media reports which claimed he had questioned Kashmir’s ties with Pakistan after Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from premiership. Haider, while denying the report, said he had been misquoted by the media group and would take legal action against person(s) involved.
