Islamabad: Pakistan has decided to send its envoy Sohail Mehmood back to India to perform official responsibilities, foreign office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal on Thursday. He said that Pakistan had handed over the harassment proofs to India.
He said this while speaking at weekly press briefing at foreign office Islamabad.
Dr Faisal said Pakistan has reservations over Pakistani diplomats’ harassment in New Delhi, adding India is not meeting the Vienna accord which makes every state in the world obligatory to provide security to foreign diplomats. He said Pakistan describes Vienna convention as an international obligation. Responding a question, he said India didn’t provide any proof to Pakistan regarding harassment of its envoys yet. Referring Moinuddin Chishti Urs, Dr Faisal said India’s denial of issuing visas to Pakistani pilgrims is regrettable.
Talking about Pak-US relations, the spokesperson said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had recently held meetings with United States Vice President Mike Pence and other leaders. He said regular meetings are being held between the officials of both the countries and the prime minister’s meetings are part of this.
Dr Faisal said that Pakistan had asked action against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leaders in Afghanistan. He said though NATO forces took action but more actions are needed to eliminate terrorists from Afghanistan. However, he termed the action a positive step. The spokesperson made it clear that there is no existence of organized terrorist groups in Pakistan and if the United States has some information in this connection, it should share intelligence information, Pakistan will take action against them.
Dr Faisal said Pakistan sees Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani’s invitation to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi a positive development, adding consultation is under process and the Afghan government will soon be responded. He made it clear that Pakistan wants cordial relations with all neighbouring countries and is ready to play its due role in this connection.
Responding another question, the spokesperson said Pakistan is in regular contact with UNHCR officials so that immediate repatriation of Afghan refugees could be made possible.
He said, there was not agreement on exchange of prisoners between both the countries. He, however, added Pakistan is holding talks over exchange of prisoner with another country.
Reacting on Indian army chief statement, Dr Faisal said India is fueling violence in the region, adding Pakistan condemns such irresponsible statements. The spokesperson said Pakistan and India should resolve their long-standing issues through dialogue. He said that the international community should play its due role in resolving the Kashmir dispute.
