MIRPUR (AJK): “Vice Chancellor of the State-run Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST) Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman (Sitara e Imtiaz) was appointed as Professor Emeritus by the Senate of the Varsity after the approval of the august house in acknowledgement of his academic achievements, long distinguished career in the academic field and contribution to the development of higher education sector in Azad Jammu Kashmir”.
This was stated by a spokesperson of the Mirpur University of Science & Technology in a statement issued here on Sunday while reacting over a report carried by a newspaper (not The Nation) on September 15, 2018 (Saturday) about the appointment of the VC MUST Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman (Sitara e Imtiaz) as Professor Emeritus by the HEC Pakistan.
“MUST strongly condemns such baseless statements as also totally against the realities and have the legitimate right to legally proceed against the disgruntled elements”, the spokesman said.
The spokesperson made it clear that Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman (Sitara e Imtiaz) was appointed as Professor Emeritus by the Senate of the University entirely according to the required stature set by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Referring to the reported hostile and baseless remarks inked in the newspaper report about the President of Azad Jammu Kashmir / Chancellor of the MUST varsity, the MUST spokesperson described the remarks as the outcome of totally the lack of knowledge and information about the Varsity’s system.
The spokesperson continued that all the public-sector universities in Azad Jammu Kashmir are at the path of unprecedented progress under the leadership of the AJK President Sardar Masood Khan, who is also Chancellor of the public sector universities in AJK. It is a great pride for the public sector universities in AJK that they were running under the able and dynamic guidance of the AJK President / Chancellor Sardar Masood Khan like man of high intellect and pen. The spokesperson further said that the AJK President Masood Khan is the great symbol of the State. “The negative statements and views about him are the symbol of low mentality”, the spokesman said.
The MUST spokesperson, in his statement categorically described the above mentioned news report about Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman (Sitara e Imtiaz) trying to defame the great personality of the Vice Chancellor as misleading, baseless, concocted and absolutely against the realities. “The above news report is part of a conspiracy aimed at to damage the good reputation of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman”, the spokesperson said.
The MUST spokesperson continued as saying “ Over a hundred research papers authored by Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman were published in various magazines / periodicals of national and international repute. He is also the author of an approved patent of the Government of Pakistan. Over a hundred post graduate students have completed their respective research projects under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor. Moreover, 13 of M.Phil and six Ph.D students have completed their studies under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman. He has been crowned with series of awards in recognition of his outstanding performance in top academic and research fields. These high class awards including ‘Pakistan Academy of Science Gold Medal 1999’, ‘AJK Government Medal on Independence Day of Pakistan on August 14, 2000’, ‘University Best Teacher (Science Group) Award 2001’ and ‘Govt. of Pakistan Best Teacher Award 2005’. Besides, he is also the recipient of most prestigious national award of ‘Sitara e Imtiaz’ conferred upon him by President of Pakistan on August 14, 2008 in acknowledgement of his exceptional services and abilities in the higher education field in the country. He also secured the title of Fellow Of Chemical Society of Pakistan in 2006 in recognition of his high services in the field of Chemistry”.
The MUST spokesperson suggested that being a responsible citizen it is our moral obligation to refrain from following the path of self-interests and self-praise and instead should focus to respect those who deserve of it.
