Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech has said that only love and not bullets or abuse can help resolve the dragging problem in Jammu and Kashmir. His remarks are being welcomed by political circles and some Kashmiri Leaders. Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed this statement. Chief Minister of occupied Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has also welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks. Mehbooba Mufti said she has all along believed that only dialogue and peaceful means can help in resolving issues as the futility of violence has been established all around. Omar Abdullah, former Occupied Kashmir chief minister and Opposition leader, said PM Modi should follow his words with action now. Modi’s Kashmir policy is getting severe criticism from across the world including inside India. During the tenure Modi’s government, situation in Occupied Kashmir has badly deteriorated. Indian occupational forces continued their barbaric activities and severe human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and remained involved in genocide of Kashmiris with impunity. Situation in occupied Kashmir is still very grave and indigenous movement by Kashmiris who are seeking freedom is getting momentum. Kashmiri youth are rendering their sacrifices for the freedom if Kashmir. Hurriyat leadership is facing constant detention. Worst Indian oppressions on defenseless and innocent Kashmiris could not bar from their struggle. Indian attempts to repeal 35A show its intentions and it is continuously trying to change the demography of occupied Kashmir. The abrogation of Article 35A of Indian Constitution will severely affect and dilute the case of right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It seems that India has changed its strategy to handle ongoing freedom struggle in Occupied Kashmir because its violent policy has failed. The time will show the reality behind such remarks. Only lofty statements and hollow slogans will not be succeeded until some concrete measures are adopted. India should immediately stop bloodshed and state terrorism in occupied Kashmir and initiate result oriented dialogue with Pakistan to resolve this lingering issue. Peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue is imperative for the lasting peace and stability of the region. People of Kashmir will not sit with ease until the attainment of their goal and they will continue their struggle till its logical end. United Nations should play its due role to resolve this issue and should take steps for the implementation of its resolutions on Kashmir.
