Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while raising concern over a war-like situation between India and Pakistan has said that the unabated exchange of fire between the two countries at the Line of Control is casting a shadow of war in the South Asian region.
A Hurriyat forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar urged the leadership of India and Pakistan to accept the ground realities and play their part in stopping a big catastrophe which can lead to mass destruction in the region.
“The exchange of heavy fire between the two countries is taking a serious toll on the people living on the both sides of Line of Control as they are losing their property and their lives and live under a perpetual threat to their life and property,” he added
The forum urged India to shun its rigid and stubborn approach and take concrete steps to take all stakeholders including Pakistan and the people of Kashmir on board for a meaningful dialogue for settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per the aspirations of people of Kashmir.
The Hurriyat forum paid rich tributes to Noor Muhammad Tantray, who was martyred by Indian troops in a cordon and search operation at Samboora in Pulwama district, yesterday. The statement said, Kashmiri youth are spilling their blood for the freedom and self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Other Hurriyat leaders and organizations including Aasiya Andrabi, Zafar Akbar Butt and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League in their separate statements also paid tributes to Noor Muhammad Tantray.
