Mirpur: After the release of the salaries for past two months, abandoned by the authorities for the last five months, the faculty of the state-run Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur has postponed their scheduled indefinite pen-down strike for next few days in wait of the acceptance of their demands by the AJK government.
According to Dr. Sadiq Hussain, General Secretary AJK Medical Teachers Association Mirpur Chapter, the protestant teaching staff of the medical college  have decided to continue their protest by fastening black bands on their arms from October 28 for indefinite period till the acceptance of the charter of their demands – which include mainly the timely payment of the monthly salaries and allowance to the faculty.
Decision to this effect was taken in the general body meeting of the Association held at the conference room of the MBBS Medical college late Thursday. The house thanked the government for making arrangements for the payment of the pending salary of three months to the academic staff / teachers of the Medical college who had reached to the verge of starvation because of the non-payment of their monthly salaries since last four months because of the reported worst economic conditions, the AJK government is reportedly facing with since it came into power because of the reported massive financial mismanagement of the outgoing regime.
The participants of the meeting, however, showed grave concern over the lack of due arrangements for the payment of the pending salaries and due arrears of allowances for past three months to the faculty members of the medical college.
The meeting categorically declared to initiate more stringent steps to press the AJK government for early acceptance of their demands including the arrangements for timely payment of the salaries and other due benefits to the academia of the only public-sector medical college in Mirpur division.
