Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has criticized the Indian authorities for restricting and arresting pro-freedom leaders, terming it their frustration.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The election process in Kashmir has been reduced to mere drama enacted by the Indian government, thereby scandalising the whole exercise through deceitful means.â€
He said, “The Indian Supreme Court ruling states that participation in poll processes is neither compulsory nor campaign for poll boycott comes within the domain of any offence. However, soon after notification for elections is announced, the authorities create martial law like situation in the territory.â€
“We believe in right to freedom and expression and won’t thrust our opinion about poll boycott. However, we will reach out to the people and ask them to stay away from these manipulated elections,†he added.
The APHC Chairman asked the puppet authorities to desist from creating a scare and appalling situation and “allow us to convey our stance about these pollsâ€.
“The authorities should allow us to avail the right to reach out to people. When the contesting candidates are not barred from reaching out to the people, why is the resistance camp denied this right? It will testify the acceptance among masses and the verdict of people regarding their aspirations,†he said, adding that “The People will boycott these polls provided we are allowed to convey our stance.â€
He said, “Holding elections amidst presence of one million forces personnel is mockery and just a drama. We and people of the territory do have regard for people’s opinion; however instead of becoming a part of these sham elections we will express our verdict regarding the political future of Jammu and Kashmir through referendum under the supervision of international community.â€
