Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference and senior vice president of Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar while voicing his serious concerns over the killings innocent civilians by Indian forces in Kashmir has urged the world leaders and human rights organisations to redouble their efforts for the promotion and protection of basic human rights in the region.
In a statement issued here on Monday Saghar said that killing spree and pellet horrors in the UN disputed territory continue to haunt Kashmiris who have been left at the mercy of occupation forces. The hellish situation in the region he said should serve as an eye opener for the international community. “Killing of Misra Begum of Kupwara , Tahira Begum of Shopian and Asif Iqbal of Kupwara by Indian forces bear testimony to the fact that they do not believe in protection and promotion of human rights”, he said.
Terming the killing of innocent civilians as a part of India’s systematic campaign to instill fear and trepidation into the society he said it was quite strange that these ruthless killings were shamelessly being daubed as the cases of “mistaken identity, stray bullet or Cross firing.”
He said that despite cries of local and International human rights groups none of perpetrators was brought to justice so far. Every Kashmiri he said lives on a razor edge be it a political leader, activists, student, journalist or businessmen. To terrorize Kashmiris Saghar said that Indian has activated each and every organ of state machinery to instill a sense of fear and insecurity in the region. “On the other hand New Delhi has activated NIA and enforcement directorate to harass and malign political leaders, journalist and businessmen”, he said adding that a sizable number of Hurriyat leaders including the DFP president Shabir Ahmed Shah have been arrested on trumped up charges and thrown behind the bars where they face discrimination and torture at the hands of Jail authorities and Hindu extremist groups backed by the government of India.
Urging world human rights to redouble their efforts for the promotion and protection of basic human rights in the disputed region (Kashmir) he said, “If human rights were universal then India must be held accountable for what he called its crimes against humanity”.
