The PTI chairman Imran Khan’s dream of becoming prime minister has finally come true after 22 years long political battle. Following his election as leader of the House Mr. Khan was sworn in as 22nd prime minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath of PM Office to Imran at a prestigious ceremony held at the President’s House, which was attended by high-profile guests, including caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and Navy Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, and several others. Prime Minister Khan had also approved a small cabinet comprising of 20 ministers and 5 advisors. The new government under the stewardship of Khan is going to inherit a number of challenges including the faltering economy, huge trade deficit, massive foreign debit, currency crisis, low forex, and the balance of payment. These are some grave challenges, which the government will have to face in the coming days. No doubt the peoples expectations with new government are too high but the fact is that the PM and his team will certainly take some time to evolve some sort of mechanism to address these gigantic challenges as there are no quick fixes and short cuts to the problems the country is embroiled in today. Although challenges to the new government are not new, however, the political analysts and critics would be keenly watching the new government’s first 100-day in the office as the PTI in its post-poll 100-day reform and development agenda had promised to transform governance standards, rejuvenate the fragile economy, revolutionize social services, and bringing reforms in basic education, health and agricultural sectors. Now that prime minister Khan, who had promised to transform Pakistan into a welfare state, is in the driving seat all eyes will be on him to see how he will respond to these challenges and steer the country out of the current crisis. The Game has just begun, how he plays this most important innings of his life, will he be as lucky a politician as lucky cricketer he was, only time will tell.
