Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) The Civil Defence Department (CDD) Rawalpindi is facing difficulties in performing its functions for want of funds, employees and constant cutback in the allocation of annual budget.
The Civil Defense Department which is fighting as a frontline force in ongoing war against terrorism, is now facing continuously shortage of funds, bomb Disposal Squad personnel, Instructors, clerical staff and emergency staff. The department has not been provided with funds, where several of its workers have been martyred in the line of duty.
The Civil Defense Department Rawalpindi is being controlled by Deputy Commissioner, while the funds and allocation of budget is being totally controlled by the Lahore Head office. Due toe shortage of funds, the Civil Defence Department Rawalpindi has been forced to hire staff on daily-wage.
According to sources, around 25 seats are lying vacant in Civil Defence Department Rawalpindi. Five seats of Instructors are lying vacant, while the no Bomb Disposal Expert is working in the department. 7 and 8 seats are lying vacant in Emergency and clerical Department.
The department has also stopped inductions on the seats which have fallen vacant due to transfer and retirement of staff members owing to shortage of funds.
