Gilgit: DIG Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Gauhar Nafees has suspended 4 police officers for alleged negligence in matter pertaining to the burning of schools. They include SSP, SHOs including a 17 grader of Daral and Tangir areas.
According to media reports while talking to journalists Guhar Nafees said that two officers will be reinstated following an assurance to arrest the culprits involved in the burning of the schools. He further said that within 24 hours mastermind behind the incident will be identified. He added that a high level meeting under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman was held which was also attended by Force Commander, Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police. During the meeting police have been sternly directed to take strong action against the persons involved in the incident.
It is recalled that during the night between 3 and 4 August unknown militants set fire to 12 girls schools in Gilgit Baltistan and later on reports were received that 2 more schools were set ablaze.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on August 4 had himself taken a suo motu notice of the incidents in Diamer and Chilas.
Later on police claimed that the suspected militant involved in burning of 14 girl schools was killed in the exchange of fire during the search operation and police official was also killed. The Gilgit Baltistan government has directed administration to rebuild all the schools within 15 days and announced to start classes in these schools from September first.
