NEW YORK: Pakistan permanent representative to UN Maleeha Lodhi has said differences among key regional and rival powers can drift Middle East into major conflict.
She said this while speaking during debate on Middle East and North Africa in UN Security Council (SC).
She warned that regional tension and politics of major powers can fuel Middle East conflict where a comprehensive strategy is needed to meet a multidimensional challenge.
She held unilateral steps and wrong estimates bring difficulties for the people. The core reason for instability in Middle East is non resolution of Palestine issue. Two states resolution of Palestine is being trampled before international community and situation has turned the worst owing to non initiation of action by security council.
She underlined avenue to peace in Middle East emanates from settlement of Middle East issue.
Speaking about the parliamentary elections in Iraq last month, Lodhi termed them as “as a successful model of inclusive and representative political participation”.
She underscored that the situation being faced by 22 million people in Yemen necessitates a political resolution.
