As the entire nation is celebrating 71st anniversary of independence of Pakistan today with a renewed pledge to uphold the mission of founding father Quad-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and thousands of others whose indomitable role and unwavering struggle has finally won the Muslims of subcontinent a separate homeland we cherish the most. Celebrating the years of nationhood and independence and paying homage to our national heroes on this very auspicious day is no doubt a manifestation of shared vision aimed at fostering national identity, unity and brotherhood but being responsible citizens of this country, which was achieved after immense sacrifices, we need to sit back for a while and contemplate on what we as a nation have achieved since the independence. We see a lot of debate is going on in the media outlets that Pakistan has been lagging far behind its regional competitors in terms of socio, economic development. There is no doubt that healthy discourses and debates lead to better decision-making and framing better policies at government level but it has been observed that the doom and gloom merchants who denigrate their own country fail to notice that the country that started its journey with meager resources after seeking independence from British imperialism is today reckoned as the most powerful country in the Islamic world. It is the only Muslim Nuclear power with a Large army equipped with amazing weapons, machinery and defense technology. Interestingly, no one seems to talk about the accomplishments and the achievements Pakistan has gained over the years. Despite hard times and serious sanctions imposed by the US, Pakistan is the only country in the Muslim World that has the potential and capability to produce its own tanks, jets, missiles including cruise missiles nukes etc and has a large standing military and arsenals. Pakistan is blessed with vast land, natural gas reserves, petroleum, extensive coal, iron ore, copper, salt, limestone and gold besides other natural resources. There is a dire need to unearth these natural resources to boost-up the country’s economy. No doubt we have certain flaws and defects in our system of governance that needs to be addressed properly by engaging all stakeholders. But demeaning each other, cursing is the system or derailing the system is not going to yield any positive results. We as a nation have come a long way in our challenging journey to peace and prosperity. While cherishing the past achievements we must realize our responsibilities both at individual and collective levels to keep our beloved country moving forward. Rather than falling prey to negative thinking it is imperative that every Pakistani citizen should look at things with positive frame of mind and see how effectively they can contribute to the society while working within the ambit of their own jurisdiction. The Founding father Quad-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has rightly said that with faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve. So the thing is that every responsible citizen irrespective of his political affiliation and beliefs should follow the golden words of wisdom of our great leader to make Pakistan a great nation he had dreamt of.
