Anti-measles campaign begins following poor routine immunization

ZHOB: As routine immunization in the district bore no fruit, the health department started a 12-day anti-measles campaign to vaccinate the children between nine months and five years of age in every nook and corner of the district. For the purpose 77 mobile teams have been formed to vaccinate 58000 children in urban and rural areas of the district. The parents belong to periphery have time to time complained against the low coverage of routine immunization. They said the reason behind the prevalence of the disease is poor routine immunization. But the officials concerned paid no attention to the grievances of the parents.
Provincial advisor to Chief Minister Balochistan Mutha Khan Kakar inaugurated the drive at Expended Program on Immunization (EPI) office here. He was flanked by District Health Officer Dr. Muzzafar Shah, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wali Kakar, Medical Superintendent DHQ civil hospital Dr. Akhter Mandokhail, N-Stop Officer Dr. Muhammad Amin, EPI district in-charge Muhammad Ismail and PTI district president Dawood Khan Mandokhail. The campaign would be continued till Oct 27th in the entire district.
CM advisor for Livestock and Dairy Development, while talking to journalists at the inaugural event said that the provincial government is committed and has evolved a comprehensive strategy to overcome health issues in the province.
“A healthy child is essential for a healthy society. Keeping in mind the government is committed to improve health sector in Balochistan,” he said.
Highlighting the causes of measles and the need for its prevention and MS Dr. Akhter Mandokhail said it is curable, in case the children are timely injected anti-measles vaccines. He said.
N-Stop Officer Dr. Muhammad Amin urged the media, civil society, religious scholars and social circles to play their due role during the campaign so that the disease could be completely eradicated.
