Dubai: Having let slip a chance to seal the first Test against Australia in Dubai, where Australia batted out nearly 140 overs to stave off defeat, Pakistan’s premier batsman Azhar Ali feels his team will be under some sort of pressure to win in the second and final Test in Abu Dhabi and take the series.
Pakistan had put themselves in the driver’s seat in Dubai, having set Australia a record 462 to win. However, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Tim Paine all put in gritty knocks to ensure the visitors came away from the opening Test with a draw. Australia held on, scoring 362 runs for eight wickets, before Sarfraz Ahmed opted to shake hands with one ball left to play.
Speaking to the press ahead of the second Test, Ali said that Pakistan will hope to make the most of the favourable conditions in Abu Dhabi to beat Australia.
“I can’t say if the pressure will be more on Pakistan or Australia but we are the home side and obviously people expect us to win and so there is pressure,” Ali said.
“However, having said that these are favourable conditions for us and we have to make the most of it. Pressure is always different in every match and obviously this is a decider. Being the home team we have to win it and we will enter the field thinking that. We will look to play positive cricket and hopefully the result will go our way.”
