Bannu: At least four people were killed and 35 others were injured in a bomb blast, targeting the convoy of Jamiat Ulema e Islam (JUI-F) leader, Akram Khan Durrani on Friday in Bannu.
Security forces soon after the explosion cordoned off the area and conducted search operation.
The injured were shifted to District Head Quarter Hospital Bannu (DHQ) for medical treatment where 8 of them have been pronounced critically injured.
The former Chief Minister KPK Akram Khan Durrani was returning from an election rally near North Waziristan when a remote control bomb was detonated around 40m away from the Gathering place. However he remained safe in the attack.
The locals of the area voluntarily shifted the injured to DHQ Bannu.
Durrani remained unharmed due to the bombproof vehicle he was riding, but security personnel deployed on his security were critically injured.
Talking to a private a TV channel after surviving the attempt on life Akram Khan Durrani thanked God for saving his live and expressed grief over the death of innocent people.
“I’m well with the grace of God, but why such incidents are carried out where innocent people become targets” he said.
He prayed for eternal peace for departed souls and speedy recovery of the wounded.
Durrani is a Muttahida Majlis e Amal (MMA) candidate from NA 135 against Imran Khan. He was among the list of six candidates declared sensitive by National Terrorism Authority (NCTA) and was provided with security.
He had escaped another suicide attack before, that had left ten people dead and several injured.
