Italy,(Parliament Times):According to a foreign news agency, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Global Times Media Europe Chief Executive Ikramuddin said that journalists are facing challenges all over the world, and there is a need to provide an environment free from fear, intimidation or harassment. He said that the media should also fulfill its responsibility, adhere to journalistic ethics, and report responsibly and accurately keeping in mind the national interest. He said in his statement that freedom of the press and expression is the foundation of democracy, a wall of protection of civil rights and a call for truth in society. He pays tribute to journalists, writers, cameramen and other media workers who fight for truth around the world. He said that on World Press Freedom Day, he salutes journalists and media workers while paying tribute to the defenders of freedom of thought. He said that journalism is an important responsibility whose aim is to convey accurate information and facts to the public. Journalists should transcend prejudice, partiality and unnecessary pressure and bring the truth to the fore so that the process of awareness and guidance continues in society.
He said that being the voice of the oppressed is the basic duty of journalism and this sector has always exposed the facts of war, oppression and injustice. Paying tribute to the martyred journalists, he said that the men and women journalists who sacrificed their lives during coverage in Gaza are heroes of humanity and their sacrifices are an important part of history. Global Times Media Europe Chief Executive Ikramuddin further said that the demand of today is that journalists should be given complete freedom in carrying out their duties and the problems and obstacles faced by them should be removed. He said that the role of print and electronic media is very important in shaping society, and journalists are bringing the facts to light in difficult situations without caring about their lives, which is commendable. He said that journalism should be based on the principles of ethics, truth and human service so that this sector can play its role in the positive formation of society.
