Hub,(Parliament Times):Senior central leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, spokesperson for President Asif Ali Zardari, and Senior Vice President of PPP Balochistan, Mir Ali Hassan Zehri, in his message on World Press Freedom Day, stated that freedom of the press is, in fact, the foundation of freedom of expression and an indispensable element of a conscious and civilized society. He shared these views while speaking to a delegation of journalists. He emphasized that without a free press, the voice of truth cannot be sustained, making the protection of press freedom more critical than ever. He noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always taken practical steps to uphold democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression. The party’s history reflects its consistent support for the journalist community, standing shoulder to shoulder with them and defending their rights. He added that the party leadership continues to carry this mission forward with the same commitment. Stressing the importance of media, he described it as the fourth pillar of the state, whose strength ensures a stable democratic system.
Mir Ali Hassan Zehri further stated that responsible journalism not only brings public issues to light but also strengthens institutional reform, transparency, and accountability. He acknowledged that while digital media has broadened access to information, it has also introduced serious challenges like misinformation and propaganda. Addressing these requires stronger adherence to journalistic ethics, research, and professional integrity. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of journalists, noting that they have consistently upheld truth even in the most difficult circumstances, demonstrating courage, determination, and professional honesty. He commended those who risk their lives to bring the truth to light. Highlighting the situation in Balochistan, he pointed out that journalists in the province face more severe challenges than in other regions. He called on the government and relevant institutions to take immediate and meaningful action to ensure a safe, free, and supportive environment for journalism in the province.
Addressing young journalists, he urged them to use their pen with positivity, research, balance, and realism, and to contribute to promoting awareness, hope, and constructive thinking in society. He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Peoples Party Balochistan will continue its struggle for press freedom, the protection of journalists, and the fundamental right to freedom of expression, as a free press remains the true foundation of a strong, transparent, and developed Pakistan.
