WASHINGTON,(Parliament Times):Senior military officials from the United States have warned that American forces in the Middle East are fully prepared to resume combat operations at short notice if Iran does not agree to a peace deal.
Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, US War Secretary Pete Hegseth urged Iranian leaders to choose diplomacy, offering what he described as a “prosperous future” for the country. However, he cautioned that failure to reach an agreement would result in intensified military and economic pressure, including a naval blockade and potential strikes on critical infrastructure.
As part of efforts to push Tehran towards a deal, US forces have tightened a blockade targeting vessels entering or leaving Iran. The move is aimed at restricting material support and increasing economic strain.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine stated that US forces are ready to launch major combat operations “at a moment’s notice” if required.
He added that US Navy ships are actively monitoring maritime traffic and would intercept any Iranian-flagged vessels or ships suspected of supporting Iran. Vessels attempting to defy the blockade would be warned and could face the use of force if they fail to comply. Enforcement measures are being carried out both in international waters and within Iran’s territorial seas.
According to US officials, at least 13 ships have already turned back rather than risk confrontation, while no vessels have been boarded so far.
The latest developments come as Washington continues to express cautious optimism about a potential agreement with Iran, while simultaneously increasing pressure to bring Tehran to the negotiating table.
