Islamabad,(Parliament Times):Masood Khan, former ambassador to the United States, China and the United Nations, and former president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has underscored Pakistan’s decisive diplomatic role in averting a major global conflict, stating that the country’s unwavering commitment to dialogue and international law has transformed a rapidly escalating war into an opportunity for peace.
Reflecting on months of sustained engagement, Ambassador Khan noted that Pakistan had been working tirelessly for over seven months to promote diplomacy as the only viable path forward. He emphasized that Pakistan’s approach is rooted in its faith in dialogue, the principles of the United Nations Charter, and the belief that conflicts must be resolved through negotiations before they spiral into war.
He observed that the situation had reached an alarming point, with tensions spreading across the Gulf, Iran, Central Asia, Europe, and the United States—effectively resembling the onset of a third world war. In this complex and volatile environment, bringing adversaries with deeply entrenched positions to the negotiating table was an extraordinary challenge.
Ambassador Khan highlighted Islamabad’s emergence as a global diplomatic hub, where some of the most sensitive and difficult negotiations are now taking place in a constructive and peaceful atmosphere. He stressed that this success was not achieved overnight but was the result of meticulous shuttle diplomacy and sustained communication efforts, built step by step.
He expressed gratitude to key international partners—including China, Türkiye, Gulf states, and European stakeholders—for their critical support in facilitating this diplomatic breakthrough. He also acknowledged the leadership of both Iran and the United States for demonstrating the willingness to engage in direct dialogue in Islamabad.
While noting that the negotiating agenda remains complex and sensitive, Ambassador Khan cautioned about the presence of external “spoilers” and the challenges posed by ongoing regional tensions. Despite these hurdles, he expressed optimism that continued engagement could yield a balanced outcome acceptable to all sides.
He reiterated that Pakistan has now emerged as a “net stability and peacemaking provider,” playing a frontline role in guiding the international community away from conflict. He also highlighted future opportunities for Pakistan, including strengthening regional partnerships and leveraging its strategic position for economic progress, particularly in the maritime and energy sectors.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Khan emphasized that Pakistan’s efforts have already secured a historic achievement by bringing key global actors face-to-face for direct negotiations for the first time in decades. He stated that if these efforts succeed, they will not only stabilize the region but also allow the world to move away from the brink of war toward a more peaceful and cooperative future.
