Rawalpindi,(Parliament Times):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reiterated Pakistan’s firm solidarity with Mohammed bin Salman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following Iran’s attack on a petrochemical complex in the industrial city of Jubail.
The statement came amid rising tensions in the Middle East after Iran targeted a petrochemical facility in Jubail, located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister held a telephone conversation with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the deteriorating regional security situation.
During the call, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering and unflinching solidarity and support” for Saudi Arabia and strongly condemned the attack on the Jubail oil facility.
He assured the Saudi crown prince that Pakistan would always stand “shoulder to shoulder” with the kingdom, just as Saudi Arabia had supported Pakistan in difficult times.
The prime minister also praised the Saudi leadership for demonstrating wisdom and restraint during the ongoing crisis.
The PMO further said that Pakistan is actively working with other countries to promote peace and reduce tensions in the region. In this regard, the prime minister briefed the Saudi crown prince on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at mediating and de-escalating the Middle East conflict.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives and efforts to restore stability in the region, the statement added.
Later, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia in a post on X.
Reacting to the attack, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the strike, expressed sorrow over the loss of life and damage to critical infrastructure, and extended condolences to the families of the victims. The ministry reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the government and people of Saudi Arabia during this difficult period.
The Foreign Office described the attacks as a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and warned that such actions could further destabilise regional peace.
Earlier, Pakistan’s military leadership also denounced the strike during the 274th Corps Commanders’ Conference, calling it an unnecessary escalation that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict.
Regional tensions intensified earlier this year after joint air strikes by the United States and Israel reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several senior officials. The incident triggered retaliatory actions by Iran and widened the conflict across the region.
In response, Iran launched attacks on several US military bases in Gulf countries, significantly expanding the confrontation.
Since then, Pakistan has stepped up diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue. As part of these initiatives, Islamabad recently hosted a quadrilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which drew international attention and was widely praised as a significant step toward promoting regional peace.
