    Consumerism

    Mahnaz Imdad
In a world where people are judged by what they own rather than who they are, consumerism has become a serious concern in our society. It is the growing habit of buying unnecessary goods just to follow trends or show status. Consumerism is mainly driven by advertisements, social media, and peer pressure. People, especially the youth, feel the need to purchase expensive items to look modern and successful. As a result, they often ignore their actual needs and spend money on things they do not truly require.

This habit leads to several negative effects. It creates financial problems, increases debt, and causes stress. Moreover, consumerism also harms the environment, as excessive production leads to waste and pollution. It also weakens moral values by promoting materialism over simplicity and contentment.

To overcome this issue, people should learn to distinguish between needs and wants. Awareness campaigns and education can help individuals make wise decisions. Simple living and responsible spending should be encouraged in society. I hope you will highlight this issue in your respected platform to create awareness among the public.
