Karachi,(Parliament Times): Sindh Police Clinch Ramadan Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament Title after 30 years, defeating the defending champions Hanif Khan Eleven in a thrilling and exciting final match.the tournament is being organized by Karachi Hockey Association, played at the Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr. Junaid Ali Shah Sports Complex Gulshan Iqbal,was highly exciting and full of thrilling moments. The match ended 0–0 in regulation time, and even the penalty shootout failed to produce a winner, so the final was decided on a sudden-death basis.
On the occasion of the final, Member of National Assembly and Chairperson of KHA Women’s Wing Syeda Shehla Raza, Olympian Islahuddin (Co-Chairman, PHF Management Committee), Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Munawar Ali Maheser, former PHF Secretary General Haider Hussain, DIG Traffic and Chairman Sindh Police Sports Board Pir Muhammad Shah, and hockey Olympians Kaleemullah, Iftikhar Syed, Hanif Khan, Ayaz Mahmood, Nasir Ali, and Wasim Feroz were present. Members of the Sindh Assembly from MQM Pakistan, Adil Askari and Moeed Anwar, along with international hockey players and officials of the Karachi Hockey Association, also attended.
Speaking on the occasion, Olympian Islahuddin said that organizing a hockey event during the holy month of Ramadan is a major achievement of KHA Secretary Olympian Hanif Khan and Haider Hussain. The purpose of the event is to discover new talent at the grassroots level.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Munawar Ali Maheser said that the way Haider Hussain and KHA are serving hockey is commendable. If other hockey associations in the country follow their example, the mission to revive hockey will become much easier.
Former PHF Secretary Haider Hussain said that hockey academies will soon be established in other districts of Sindh under the patronage of the Sindh Sports Department, and that academies play a very important role in the revival of hockey.
At the end of the final, Syeda Shehla Raza, along with chief guest Munawar Ali Maheser and other guests, presented the winning trophy to Sindh Police, who won the tournament after 30 years, while Hanif Khan Eleven received the runner-up trophy.
On this occasion, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah also announced a cash award of Rs. 200,000 for the winning team.
