Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed that durable peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan is only possible if the Afghan Taliban regime ceases its backing of terrorist groups.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday, the army chief made these remarks during his visit to Wana in South Waziristan, where he reviewed the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness along the western border.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir received a detailed briefing on the overall security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations, and border management measures. He was also informed about the progress of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq and recent developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The ISPR stated that the army chief interacted with officers and troops stationed in forward areas, praising their professionalism, vigilance, and high morale amid continuing skirmishes. He commended their unwavering commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintaining regional stability.
Field Marshal Munir stressed that the use of Afghan territory by Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan was unacceptable. He asserted that all necessary steps would be taken to eliminate threats emerging from across the border.
Expressing confidence in the combat readiness and resilience of forces deployed along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the army chief lauded their operational synergy and preparedness.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument, offering Fateha and paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country. He reaffirmed that their sacrifices remain fundamental to Pakistan’s security and strength.
Upon his arrival, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar.
