Brussels,(Parliament Times): Brussels MP and President of TFA, Fouad Ahidar, has addressed an open letter to the Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, Boris Dilliès, and Belgium’s Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, calling for a clear and concrete position regarding the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
In his letter, Ahidar described the indiscriminate strikes, bombardments affecting civilians, and large-scale destruction as unacceptable. He stressed that no military logic or political calculation can justify entire civilian populations paying the price.
While Israel justifies its actions by citing concerns over a potential Iranian nuclear program, Ahidar noted that, according to nuclear weapons experts, Israel itself possesses nuclear capabilities, which may equally constitute a threat to neighboring countries.
He further criticized what he described as political inaction, arguing that issuing statements without taking concrete decisions amounts to political cowardice. “Governing is not about commenting on current events; it is about making decisions — sometimes difficult, sometimes courageous,” he stated.
Ahidar emphasized that international law must apply equally to all, without double standards. He pointed out that mechanisms such as suspension of agreements, targeted sanctions, diplomatic initiatives, and political recognition are available tools — if there is political will to use them.
Concluding his letter, Ahidar urged both regional and federal authorities to adopt a clear position and translate it into tangible actions, warning that history will judge not only those who act, but also those who remain silent.
