    CDA launches comprehensive cleanliness drive in Islamabad

    Islamabad,(Parliament Times):  A meeting was held on Monday at CDA Headquarters regarding a high-standard of cleanilness and sanitation system for the Federal Capital, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by CDA Board Member Administration Talat Mehmood, Director General (DG) Building Control and Housing, Director General (DG) Environment, Director Solid Waste Management, Chief Officer MCI and other relevant officers. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on a comprehensive strategy regarding high-standard cleanliness arrangements for the Federal Capital, Islamabad.

    Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that a comprehensive cleanliness system should be devised for the immediate resolution of sanitation-related issues in the Federal Capital, Islamabad. He said that in this regard, a special cleanliness campaign will be launched across Islamabad.
    The meeting decided to immediately fulfill the requirement for new machinery and manpower to improve secondary and primary collection across the City.
    Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that special attention will be given to modern equipment, machinery, manpower and planning to solve sanitation problems in the Federal Capital, Islamabad.
    During the briefing on various measures regarding sanitation in the Federal Capital, Islamabad, it was informed that the number of waste containers in urban and rural areas will be increased. It was briefed that the repair work of damaged waste containers installed in the city will also be carried out and the number of waste trolleys for sanitation will also be increased. Similarly, dustbins will be installed across the city for waste disposal.
    Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, directed that a three-bin system be ensured in commercial Markazs so that waste can be separated and recycled. He said that local traders should also be included in the cleanliness campaign in commercial Markazs and trade centers.
    Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that mohalllah committees should be formed for local residents to improve the sanitation system. He directed that challans and fines be imposed against elements spreading littering in Markazs and commercial areas. He said that the Islamabad Food Authority should also take action against the restaurants responsible for the waste.
    Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that a 24/7 control room should be established to monitor the sanitation process in the city. He said that helpline numbers for resolving citizens’ complaints should be displayed on digital screens across the City for public awareness.
    The meeting was briefed that the provision of wireless sets and new uniforms is being ensured for the field staff for quick response. The meeting was informed that the process of licensing and registration will be initiated for scavengers (individuals lifting garbage) in different areas.
    Chairman CDA Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that these measures will bring significant improvement in the solid waste system of Islamabad and citizens will be able to have a clean environment. He further said that all resources will be utilized to make the Federal Capital, Islamabad, a clean City.
