Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times) : Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) and its allied hospitals, former Dean, and Head of the Departments of Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Trauma, has been appointed as International Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG). Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad completed his graduation from Rawalpindi Medical University and pursued professional specialization in Pakistan, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, and Singapore, among other countries. He began his career as a Consultant in 1992 and, through his dedication, compassion, and advanced clinical expertise, has helped thousands of patients recover over the years. Dr. Riaz Ahmad is not only an accomplished surgeon but also a compassionate teacher. As a supervisor for MS and FCPS programs, he has trained numerous postgraduate students. Under his guidance, several research papers have been published and acclaimed nationally and internationally. On this occasion, former Provincial Health Minister of Punjab, Dr. Jamal Nasir, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad. He stated that Dr. Riaz Ahmad is a hardworking, sincere, and highly skilled professional who is a source of pride for the nation. Dr. Jamal Nasir added that this appointment is an honor not only for Rawalpindi Medical University but for the entire country. He expressed confidence that Dr. Riaz Ahmad will continue to play a vital role in aligning Pakistan’s medical institutions with international standards through his visionary leadership. Even after retirement, Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad remains closely associated with his alma mater. He continues to serve Rawalpindi Medical University as Advisor to the Vice Chancellor, Director of Artificial Intelligence, and Chairman of the Ranking Committee, all on an honorary basis. In recognition of his lifelong contributions, the university awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. Dr. Riaz Ahmad is among the few Pakistani experts who have brought global recognition to the country through their knowledge, research, and professional excellence. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and AO Trauma. His appointment as International Advisor to the RCPSG marks a significant milestone in strengthening academic, research, and professional collaborations between Pakistan and this prestigious global institution. Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad has expressed his commitment to creating international opportunities for Pakistani surgeons and physicians and to elevating the standards of medical education in the country to match global benchmarks.
