Islamabad (Parliament Times) : Satrang Art Gallery opened a solo exhibition titled “Portraits of Adornments” by artist Minaa Haroon in Islamabad on Thursday. The event was attended by diplomats, art enthusiasts, and members of the cultural community.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan, Alexandra Berg von Linde, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honor. In her remarks, the Ambassador praised the creativity and depth of Minaa Haroon’s artworks, noting that her pieces thoughtfully bridge memory, heritage, and self-expression.
Asma Rashid Khan, Director and Founding Director of Satrang Art Gallery, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the exhibition. She said that Haroon’s practice reimagines jewelry not simply as adornments but as “powerful storytellers of women’s experiences and identities across generations.”
The artist, Minaa Haroon, explained that her work draws inspiration from her mother’s jewelry, which she regards as a personal archive. “Throughout history, civilizations have been understood through their material culture. By transforming inherited adornments, I shift them from private possessions into historical entities, opening up new interpretations of femininity, inheritance, and cultural heritage,” she stated.
The exhibition explores how inherited jewelry in South Asia functions as a cultural symbol and a witness to collective histories of women, while also raising questions about the limitations of such traditions.
“Portraits of Adornments” is open for public viewing at Satrang Art Gallery, Islamabad.
