Rawalpindi, i(Parliament Times) : Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Kissan Wing Khalid Nawaz Sadhiraich said that the grand public gathering in Peshawar on 27th September was not just a show of political strength, but a representation of the constitutional and legal demands of the vast majority of the 250 million people Pakistan.
He said this while paying tributes to the participants, especially bodies of the farmers’ organization whoT participated in the public meeting on Sunday.
He said the demands included the release of Imran Khan and other PTI innocent prisoners from illegal detention, as well as support for flood victims, the poor, and farmers. “Rejecting these demands on the basis of party affiliation would be a mistake by the rulers”, he added.
Khalid Nawaz Sadhiraich thanked the farmers’ organizations and farmers who participated in the successful public meeting in Peshawar, saying that while the practical suspension of the constitution and law was lamented, thousands of farmers’ representatives highlighted their problems.
He highlighted that the worst flood in 40 years has caused thousands of deaths, displaced nearly 4 million people, and destroyed infrastructure, agriculture, standing crops, and food stocks. If the affected farmers are making demands, they should not be given a purely political color. He said that not only have standing crops of rice, sugarcane, maize, and cotton been destroyed on 220,000 hectares, but the irrigation system and inputs for the Rabi season have also been disrupted. Farmers are standing helpless on the roads, and the government has no comprehensive plan to compensate for their losses and rehabilitation, except for empty statements.
“The Peshawar gathering has drawn the attention of the current rulers to this issue. We are talking about ensuring the rule of law, restoring and protecting people’s constitutional rights, and supporting farmers and infrastructure damaged by floods”, he mentioned. He further said that if there was a truly representative government in the country, it would know that it has to be accountable to the people, and practical steps would have been taken to rehabilitate flood victims and compensate farmers for their losses.
He congratulated all leaders and workers, especially farmer organizations and farmers, on the successful Peshawar gathering, and said that they will continue their struggle within the framework of the constitution and law.
