Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times) : A groundbreaking free medical camp, the first of its kind, will be held on August 17th in Rawalpindi to investigate the far-reaching impacts of climate change, particularly on human health. Not only will the camp provide vital medical check-ups and medication to flood-affected patients in the twin cities, but a team of expert doctors will also compile a comprehensive study report to be submitted to federal and provincial health authorities. This pioneering initiative will aims to facilitate research on the prevention and treatment of climate-related diseases and to evolve an effective policy to mitigate the health consequences of climate change.
This was announced by Rana Abdul Baqi, Chairman of the Jinnah Iqbal South Asian Forum, while unveiling the details of the free medical camp. To commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day, the camp will cater to patients struggling with various health issues exacerbated by the recent floods. Scheduled to take place at the Jinnah Iqbal Education School, Asghar Mall Scheme, Rawalpindi, the camp will offer free blood tests and ultrasound facilities for women.
Dr. Jamal Nasir, former Punjab Health Minister, will inaugurate the camp and review its various sections alongside Col. Bakhtiar Hakim’s administrative team. A dedicated study committee comprising seasoned medical professionals will meticulously examine climate-related diseases, and their recommendations will be channeled through Dr. Jamal Nasir to the relevant health departments in Punjab and at the federal level.
