Whenever tensions flare up between two countries—whether due to political disputes, military actions, or diplomatic breakdowns—an unfortunate pattern emerges: YouTube channels, especially those promoting dialogue, culture, or independent commentary, often become easy targets. These channels, many run by common citizens, journalists, or cultural enthusiasts, are frequently subjected to mass reporting, cyberattacks, demonetization, or even complete shutdowns. This happens not because they are promoting hate, but simply because they represent the “other side” or try to show a balanced view. In some cases, even harmless travel vlogs or cooking channels are flagged just because of the nationality of the creator. This trend reflects growing intolerance and digital nationalism. Instead of engaging in meaningful discourse, people resort to silencing voices across the border—further fueling misinformation, hate, and division. It’s time for social media platforms and the public alike to differentiate between propaganda and peaceful content. Independent creators should be protected, not punished, during times of conflict. Silencing them only widens the gap between nations and shuts the door on the possibility of peace.
