MIRPUR (AJK), (Parliament Times) : Calling for international action against the contual state-sponsored terrorism and human rights violations by India in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir state, the Turkey-based Kashmiri rights international outfit -The Kashmir Diaspora Coalition (KDC) marked the 09 years, on Tuesday, the Martyrdom of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a 22-year-old Kashmiri whose death at the hands of Indian occupational forces on July 8, 2016, sparked a historic uprising in Indian- Illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir, organisers said, according to a message reaching and released to the media here on Wednesday.
“The response from Indian authorities was brutal, with over 100 civilian deaths, more than 20,000 injuries, and
hundreds of cases of blinding by pellet shotguns.
Wani, widely seen by Kashmiris as a symbol of defiance, has been deliberately vilified by Indian authorities. However, his story — and the
mass protests that followed — forced the international community to pay attention.OHCHR Reports Ignored by India In the wake of these events, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published two landmark reports:
2018 OHCHR Report: Triggered by the killing of Wani, this was the first-ever UN human rights report on Kashmir, documenting grave abuses and calling for an independent international inquiry.
• 2019 OHCHR Update: Confirmed ongoing violations and India’s continued use of repressive laws, including the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA).India rejected both reports and refused UN investigators access to
Kashmir.
KDC Statement
“Burhan Wani’s killing did not silence Kashmir — it gave birth to a movement of truth and resistance,” said a KDC spokesperson in the message “India may refuse access, but the world cannot keep its eyes closed. The OHCHR reports remain on record. The killings
remain on record. Our struggle for self-determination remains legitimate under international law.”
KDC Demands:
1. Recognition of the Kashmiri people’s right to self determination under UN Charter and Geneva
Conventions.
2. Formal acknowledgment of Burhan Wani and others
like him as symbols of resistance to occupation — not
terrorists.
3. Implementation of the OHCHR’s recom. Implementation of the OHCHR’s recommendation
for an international inquiry into human rights violations in Kashmir.
4. Sanctions and accountability measures against
Indian officials and forces involved in systematic abuses.
5. Immediate access for humanitarian observers and
media into Kashmir.
The Kashmir Diaspora Coalition calls on the UN, the
OIC, the European Union, and all states committed to
human rights to break their silence and act with urgency, the message concluded.
