Rawalpindi (PR) : PTI Kisan Wing spokesperson Khalid Nawaz Sudhraich has disclosed that a large number of farmers and other people associated with agriculture, who have suffered losses due to poor agricultural policies of the government, are migrating to other sectors including industry, trade and services to earn their bread and butter. This business migration is a big blow to agriculture and the agricultural economy, which needs urgent attention from the authorities.
He said this while talking to representatives of various farmers’ organizations during meetings with regard to device a uniform strategy to save the agriculture.
He said that this is not a political issue but a grave concern associated with the country’s economy. “Farmers do not get back even the money equal to the cost of production and all the profit or benefit is taken by the middlemen”, he added. Khalid Nawaz Sudhraich said that PTI Kisan Wing has practically mobilized to save agriculture and farmers from losses. After Punjab, we have contacted farmers in other provinces as well who are very worried about the government’s poor agricultural policies. We are bringing together farmer organizations of all four provinces on the platform of PTI Kisan Wing. The sole purpose of these activities is to save the declining agriculture from destruction. He mentioned that the farmers are demanding from the government that they be given concessions on electricity, seeds, fertilizers and other input items. “Instead of buying the agricultural commodities produced by farmers with hard work, at low prices, the farmers should be given full reward for their hard work and in addition, the mill owners should be made responsible to pay them in full and on time after purchasing the agricultural commodities from the farmers so that the economic exploitation of the farmers can be ended”, he demanded.
