Lahore, (PR) Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has directed all contractors of the Suthra Punjab Program to de-silt drains regularly with the onset of the rainy season. Chairing a meeting of contractors of Suthra Punjab and CEOs of waste management companies of Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala and DG Khan divisions held at the Civil Secretariat, he said that the day-to-day improvement in the Clean Punjab Program is positive sign. “The trust of the people is a clear proof of the success of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision”, he observed.
During the meeting, a detailed review of the ongoing Clean Punjab Program in all four divisions and the challenges faced was taken. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and the Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Clean Punjab Program Asim Mehmood also attended the meeting.
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq urged that if there is any shortage of machinery required for cleaning during the rainy season, it should be removed. He said that the performance of waste management companies will continue to be reviewed regularly. Zeeshan Rafiq warned that the Punjab government will not compromise on achieving the set cleanliness targets. During the meeting, the provincial minister also issued necessary instructions to the concerned CEOs after listening to the contractors. He said that high performance on Eid-ul-Azha is the honor of the Suthra Punjab program. The promise made by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to reward the workers has been fulfilled. “Those who work hard”, he went on, “will also get rewards in the future, however, action will be taken against those who don’t take interest in their job”. The Minister directed that the preparation of the remaining dumping sites be completed soon.
On this occasion, Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian said that the cleaning staff at the village level should be monitored on a daily basis and a report should be sent to the central control room. “Special attention should be paid to the maintenance of machinery during the monsoon. The mechanism of action on the complaints of citizens should be gradually improved”, he remarked.
