London, (PR) : Malik Amir Kabul, President of the Overseas Pakistanis Welfare Council Kashmir Forum London, has appealed to the leaders of the G7 nations—the world’s major economies—to pressure India to end human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He also called for the Kashmiri people to be granted their right to self-determination, in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
This appeal comes as the G7 Summit is set to begin on the 15th of this month in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited as a guest.
In a statement, Kabul highlighted the long history of Indian atrocities against Kashmiris. He stated that youth in IIOJK are subjected to daily torture, and numerous political leaders and human rights advocates, including Yasin Malik and Khurram Parvez, remain imprisoned. He also pointed out that journalists and human rights activists are silenced through oppression and violence.
Kabul emphasized that the G7 nations, which work for global peace and economic stability, must intervene to stop India’s illegal actions in IIOJK to ensure lasting peace and economic prosperity in South Asia. He argued that since international peace and security, along with global economic stability and development, are G7 objectives, these countries should understand that peace and stability in South Asia are linked to a sustainable resolution of the Kashmir issue when considering their relations with India. He demanded that G7 leaders use their economic and political influence to send a clear message to India: without an end to oppression and violence in IIOJK, development in the region is impossible. This means that true peace and prosperity in South Asia cannot be achieved without a just resolution to the Kashmir issue.Kabul further asserted that India is not only engaged in state terrorism in IIOJK and committing injustices against minorities and lower classes within India, but its intelligence agencies have also been found involved in terrorist activities in the US and Canada. It’s worth noting that the G7 is an organization of the world’s seven largest economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union.
