Muzaffarabad, (Parliament Times) : May 1st holds historic significance, and the government needs to take immediate and concrete steps to implement a minimum wage, which is still not visible in AJK. This statement was made by Jamila Khatoon, Central Joint Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Azad Kashmir Women’s Wing, while talking to journalists.
She emphasized that on May Day, it’s essential to ensure that laborers are paid a minimum wage of Rs 37,000. Many private institutions, factories, hotels, and other establishments pay very low wages to their employees. Even in private schools and academies, where tuition fees are in the hundreds of thousands, the salaries of highly qualified staff, such as Masters and MPhil holders, are very low.
She urged the government to work with local representatives, civil society, and social organizations to protect laborers’ rights and prevent exploitation. She also called for strict laws against forced labor and child labor.
