Including Gujari language as an elective subject in the curriculum is a highly commendable step: Riaz Kohmrawi

London, (PR) : The Vice President of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) UK, Riaz Kohmrawi, stated that the notification issued to include the Gujari language as an elective subject in the curriculum from grades six to eight is a highly commendable step. He credited this achievement to the tireless efforts of Acting President of the State, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, and other literary and academic figures. He added that not only the Gujjar community but also people from various backgrounds who value knowledge and awareness have greatly appreciated and praised this initiative.
He further emphasized that all communities and their native languages are worthy of respect and that he has always valued them and will continue to do so. He also acknowledged differing opinions on this matter, stating that everyone expresses their perspective according to their level of understanding. However, he firmly asserted that including the Gujari language in the curriculum is a positive step.Language is a fundamental aspect of a nation’s identity and culture. Kashmiri, Pahari, and Gujari languages are an integral part of our cultural heritage, playing a crucial role in preserving our history, traditions, and identity. Incorporating the Gujari language into the curriculum is not just a step towards preserving the language and culture of the Gujjar community but also promotes linguistic diversity and social harmony.Unfortunately, he noted, some people find this initiative difficult to accept, considering it unnecessary or insignificant. However, the inclusion of languages is not against any particular community; rather, it benefits a diverse society as a whole. Every language carries the civilization, literature, and history of its speakers, and its promotion strengthens national cohesion.He stressed the need to move beyond narrow-mindedness and, instead of pitting languages against each other, use them as a means for unity and cultural development. The inclusion of the Gujari language in the curriculum is not just an educational necessity but also a recognition of the rights of a large community. Therefore, this positive step should be supported so that every language and culture can maintain its unique identity.
