LARKANA : The Pakistan Peoples Party has declared the project of 6 controversial canals including the Cholistan Canal as a robbery on the Indus River and a fight between the provinces. It has been announced that Sindh will fight the case of Sindh in all constitutional forums including ECNEC, NEC and CCI against the controversial canal project. This was announced by Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh Provincial President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while addressing a meeting held in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on the occasion of the 17th death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He further said that the construction of 6 canals on the Indus River is not acceptable in any case. He said that the decision to build 6 canals cannot be taken without the consent of the province. If approval is taken to build a canal against the consent of the province, the people of Sindh will be on the streets. Therefore, we make it clear to the federal government that Sindh will not allow the construction of a canal on its Indus River. He said that the constitutional The force is the CCI, which neither convened a meeting nor received any approval from any constitutional forum. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro further said that the federal government should convene a meeting of the CCI under Article 153(3) of the Constitution to hear Sindh’s constitutional position against the controversial canal project, in light of which an announcement should be made to withdraw from the canals and end the unrest created among the people of Sindh. He said that if Punjab wants to develop its lands, then Punjab should develop its agricultural lands through tube wells using underground water and drip irrigation. However, it is not possible to develop the agricultural lands of one province and make others barren. Therefore, we can clearly say that Sindh will not allow this to happen. He added that due to the lack of additional water, Sindh is concerned that the Chashma-Jhelum Link TP Canal will be continuously flooded, taking water from the Indus River and supplying water to the Cholistan Canal through these field canals, which will turn millions of acres of Sindh’s land barren, which will deal a major blow to Sindh’s agriculture.
